Greetings from EuMW 2018 – the Place to Be if You Have Anything to Do with Microwave, mmWave, Wireless Technologies, Antennas or Radar
If you are in RF, you’ve probably heard the four letters EuMW. EuMW is the perfect chance to get an insight into the current and future of the microwave sector. Definitely the place to be if you have anything to do with microwave, mmWave, wireless technologies, antennas, or radar.
This year, there were three conferences:
The European Microwave Conference (EuMC) dedicated to microwave components, systems and technology.
The European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference (EuMIC) – technical conference for RF, microwave and photoelectronic.
The European Radar Conference (EuRAD) for the present status and the future trends in the field of radar technology, system design, and applications.
Our RF Technology Manager Dr. Jan Järveläinen attended EuMC and EuRAD. What was trending?
I was following mainly the sessions about antennas and automotive and industrial radars. One rather interesting observation was that the main themes were more or less the same as last year, namely 5G, autonomous driving and IoT. Although the grand topics were the same, the conference presentations were focusing more on realistic applications which could be used in real (future) off-the-shelf products. There were many papers on 28 GHz mobile phone antennas as well as mmWave antennas for car connectivity. There were also many papers focusing on above 100 GHz frequencies, i.e., looking towards 6G.
The conference exhibition is also a huge event, visited by about 4000 visitors and 1800 conference delegates. We had great fun presenting our ultra-low loss, thermoplastic PREPERM® materials in our booth. In the past few years, we’ve toured many trade shows, but this time, the interest towards us was overwhelming!
During three exhibition days, our business managers Outi Härkki and Victor Heinänen presented the properties and benefits of our material hundreds of times. Outi and Vici, what impressed our visitors the most?
Our customers seemed excited about the processability and easy moldability of our high-permittivity grades.
In order to make the most out of the exhibition, we partnered up with AWR in their Partner Lounge area. The joint exhibition space with AWR is a part of a larger collaboration. We have kindly been asked to join their AWR Design Forum. The tour has already visited Seoul and Tokyo. Next, it will move on to Italy, Germany and China. Check out the details and come meet us if you are around!
